                                                ~~Romans 10:15

In the Woodstock generation of the 1960's, the so-called "hippies" of those days wore bell-bottom jeans and bare feet.  Those feet took a pounding; calluses and thick, dry soles were only what could be expected with wearing no shoes.  In the 1970’s, foot health made an appearance with the introduction of Dr. Scholl’s exercise sandals.  Women loved them. In the 1980’s, ads on TV started appearing for a cosmetic device called "The Pampered Foot."  It was basically a sanding tool for removal of callous.  The 90’s ushered in a large array of foot treatment creams and lotions and women swarmed to the drug stores to buy them.  Alas, we are into the new millennium and the desire for sexy, soft feet has entered the mainstream.  Both television and magazine ads feature more pictures that include feet than ever before.  Pedicure salons are everywhere; but the service comes for a price.

For some, feet are gross and disgusting, while a growing number of others find feet to have a sexy mystique about them.  Many women are totally fashion concious, and they refuse to be outdone by their friends.  Today is the just the beginning of the flip-flop and toe ring revolution; and realizing that their feet are drawing attention, ladies are traveling to busy spas for pedicures.  There is nothing wrong with that; but face it, spas get expensive; plus news reports are revealing more and more cases of serious infection from poorly sanitized equipment in public salons.  It is with that in mind, that more and more ladies are turning to self-care of their precious peds.  This routine usually involves a trip to the local Wal-Mart for a vibrating foot bath, and a few lotions and creams in the health and beauty aisle. Add a pumice stone, loofah sponge, and some Nair for the toe hair, and you've got yourself a home pedicure. Does it work?  Well, yes . . . kind of.

Those creams and lotions you bought in the last paragraph are all fine and dandy but read the ingredients and you will find that almost universally, the main ingredient is water.  The better ones contain urea or lactic acid, both of which are de-keratinizing ingredients.  That means they help soften and break

NATURAL SHEA BUTTER

down calluses.  But in order to get sufficient strengths of these ingredients, you need a prescription; and that requires a trip to the doctor’s office.  There just has to be a better way.  And fortunately for the home skin care diva, there is.  Enter shea butter.  A natural emollient, shea butter is a product of the karite tree found in West Africa.  African women have used it for centuries to soothe and heal the skin.  Living in the harsh climate that they do, Africans have a naturally thicker, tougher skin than we do, but our foot skin is a different story.  The skin on the soles of your feet is up to 7 times thicker than the skin elsewhere on the body.  That is the reason that drugstore remedies don’t work.  The water in them literally evaporates before you can rub them enough to get the stuff into your skin.  Shea butter eliminates this problem.  Since Shea and your skin are both products of Mother Nature, the two go great hand-in-hand, er, foot.  Your skin is naturally porous.  Those yucky drugstore concoctions can (and do) clog those pores.  This prevents your feet from breathing properly.  Shea butter is actually absorbed into the skin through the pores.  This means deeper penetration of natural moisture where it is needed most: those dry feet.
